Curriculum (Duplicated)
Curriculum Vision
At Griffin Primary School, our curriculum is designed to ensure that every child achieves well academically and develops the knowledge, skills and personal qualities needed to thrive in school and in life.
We recognise that children arrive at Griffin with a wide range of experiences and starting points. Our curriculum is therefore ambitious, inclusive and carefully structured, enabling all pupils to access high-quality learning while feeling safe, supported and valued. Strong relationships, emotional security and clear routines underpin everything we do, because children learn best when they feel secure and understood.

What We Teach
We teach a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum rooted in the National Curriculum and enriched to reflect the needs of our pupils and community.
Our curriculum:
-
Builds secure, cumulative knowledge and understanding across all subjects
-
Develops key skills, vocabulary and concepts progressively from Early Years to Year 6
-
Includes academic, creative, physical and personal development opportunities
-
Places reading at the heart of learning so pupils can access the full curriculum
From the Early Years onwards, learning is carefully sequenced so that pupils revisit and build on prior knowledge, supporting long-term retention and understanding.
Why We Teach It
We believe that all children can succeed, regardless of background or circumstance, when barriers to learning are understood and addressed.
Our curriculum is designed to:
-
Equip pupils with the knowledge and skills they need for future learning
-
Support emotional wellbeing, self-regulation and resilience, recognising the impact of lived experience on learning
-
Promote curiosity, confidence and positive attitudes to learning
-
Ensure pupils feel a strong sense of belonging and pride in their achievements
We hold high expectations for every child, including those with SEND and additional needs, and are committed to inclusion without lowering ambition.
How We Teach It
Our curriculum is delivered through high-quality teaching, strong relationships and consistent practice.
We ensure effective learning by:
-
Providing clear routines, structure and consistency, supporting pupils to feel safe and ready to learn
-
Building positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and perseverance
-
Teaching that builds on prior learning and revisits key concepts to strengthen understanding
-
Adapting teaching and scaffolding learning to meet individual needs
-
Using engaging, meaningful contexts, including outdoor learning, enrichment experiences and links to our local community
The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the foundation of our curriculum through play-based, relational and carefully structured learning, developing communication, confidence and early academic skills.
Reading is prioritised through systematic phonics teaching and exposure to rich, diverse texts that support both academic learning and emotional understanding.
The Difference This Makes
Through our curriculum, pupils:
-
Achieve well and develop strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics
-
Demonstrate resilience, independence and positive attitudes to learning
-
Develop the ability to regulate emotions and build healthy relationships
-
Leave Griffin as confident, respectful and reflective learners
Our pupils are well prepared for the next stage of education and equipped with the knowledge, skills and personal qualities to succeed in the wider world.
