Attendance

We believe great attendance leads to great learning, so we’re here, on time, every day.

At Griffin Primary, we have high expectations for attendance, with a whole-school target of 96%. Regular attendance helps children build strong friendships, supports their wellbeing and ensures they don’t miss out on vital learning and opportunities.

The school gates open at 8.45am each day. Pupils must arrive in their classroom by 9am. Any pupils arriving after 9am are recorded as late in the register.

How are we raising attendance?

To help us raise attendance across the school, we’ve introduced a range of practical and supportive measures: a daily walking bus so pupils arrive punctually and ready to learn, breakfast clubs to give children a positive start to the day, and individual and class rewards that celebrate the best attendance each week.

We make daily phone calls to families if a child is absent, work closely with our Education and Welfare Officer, and offer tailored support through our Family Practitioners to remove barriers and help families overcome challenges to regular attendance. These strategies reflect our commitment to working in partnership with parents to ensure every child attends as much as possible and thrives at school.

What should Parents/Carers do if their child is unwell?
The NHS guidance Is my child too ill for school? - NHS (www.nhs.uk) is designed to support parents in their decision making about mild illness.
