School Meals and Packed Lunches

School Meals

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are eligible for free school meals through the Government’s Universal Free School Meals Scheme.

For children in Nursery and in Years 3 – 6, school lunches cost £2.20 per day. If you think your child may be entitled to free school meals (FSM), please speak to the School Office. Further information is available here: https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals

If you pay for your child's school meals, please pay in advance using the school payment service: School Money. We ask that you maintain your child’s meal pattern as our caterers need to plan their numbers in advance. If you wish to change your child’s lunch pattern, please speak to the School Office.

School meals always include a vegetarian option. However, if for any reason, your child requires a special diet, please let us know in writing and the catering manager will do their best to ensure these requirements are met.

Packed Lunch

Children need a balanced diet with a good variety of foods to ensure that all their requirements for growth and development are met.

The government has indicated that all school dinners must meet nutritional guidelines and these standards are met by the Edwards and Ward. It seems only fair that we should attempt to make sure that packed lunches meet the same criteria. We ask for your co-operation when making your child’s packed lunch.

Items we would never expect to see in a lunch box include sweets, chocolate-coated foods and fizzy/sweet drinks.

We have a strict no nuts policy because we have students at Griffin with nut allergies.

If you require any advice, or support in preparing healthy packed lunches, please contact a member of staff who will be able to support you further.

Students who have difficulty with their school meal or packed lunch are helped by staff members. Should there be persistent difficulties, these will be discussed with you.
