Attendance and Punctuality
All children need to be in the school playground by 8:55am when they are collected by their class teachers. Children need to attend school regularly to achieve continuity in the learning process.
There is a direct relationship between regular attendance and good achievement at school.
The school is expected to meet at the very least meet government targets set nationally for a minimum of 96% attendance across the school and are expected to take robust measures to ensure that attendance for all children does not fall below this standard.
The school must be kept informed about your child’s absence and a decision is made whether the absence is ‘authorised’ or ‘unauthorised’.
All unexplained absences will be queried on the first day of absence through a text from the school, unless we have heard from you already. Where children have had three absences in any half term period, these will be followed up and monitored through procedures in our Attendance Policy. Unexplained absences may be classed as truancies and this will involve further investigation by an Education Welfare Officer.
It is vitally important your child arrives in school on time. You need to inform the school of the reason your child is late for school. All lateness is monitored and followed up. Where students are persistently late, parents/carers will be required to meet with our Outreach Services Manager to ensure that punctuality improves. Students who arrive late miss out on important instructions at the beginning of the first lesson. This means that they miss out on an important part of their learning. Students who arrive at school late disturb other children, make more work for their teacher and make more work for the office staff.
Detailed information on our Attendance & Punctuality procedures, including our reward system for good attendance, is displayed in the Reception area.
